VOLUNTEER

QBSDR is always seeking qualified individuals to volunteer their time with the rescue. As our rescue grows, and dog count increases, we have a growing need for additional helping hands on a more consistent basis. If you’re looking to sit and pet corgis all day, volunteering for us is not the right fit. Volunteering at QBSDR can be extremely rewarding, but it is also hard work. These pups deserve to live their best life and that requires us to do the hard work to allow them that.

Please note that not all duties will be available to new volunteers as some of our doggos require special training to provide safe interactions. Our volunteers must be willing to be trained and willing to implement the training protocols that are required for all Ranch visitors for the safety of both the volunteer AND our dogs.

Here are examples of areas where we need assistance:

Contractors/Handyman(persons): As we expand, we need to build new kennels, update parts of the ranch to be more doggo friendly, and in general just need help with the honey-do list that is always growing.

Groundskeeping: General upkeep of the outside areas at the QBSDR Ranch. May include weeding, pruning, picking up poop, removing dangerous debris, building/mending fences, sanitizing K9 grass areas, trash removal.

Dog Walking: Walking individual dogs or small groups around the QBSDR Ranch neighborhood. Will require training by Susan or qualified QBSDR Veteran Volunteer.

Dog Training: A large number of the dogs we receive have little to no training. We believe that basic training is an important part of the trust-building process and helps set the expectations and boundaries that benefit their future forever home.

Kennel Maintenance: Kennel cleaning, sweeping, mopping, laundry, supply organization.

Grooming: Bathing, brushing, nail trimming, ear cleaning, teeth brushing. Will require training by Susan or qualified QBSDR Veteran Volunteer.

Photography: We are always in need of great photos of our doggos for marketing materials, dog bios, and social media posts. If you are a pet photographer willing to donate some time to our puppers, let us know!

Video Production: Training videos are one of the top requests we receive, but we need experienced individuals to help make these requests a reality for our supporters.

Transportation: Transport dogs to-and-from vet appointments if a foster parent is unavailable, transport to rescue groups, or foster homes and permanent homes.

Home Checks: Visit a home and go through our checklist, ensuring the environment is safe and secure for a dog to reside in.

Temporary Foster: A foster home that is on stand-by, should a permanent foster need to leave town for vacation or an emergency. (Foster application and training required)

Event Assistance: Helping set up and break down at events such as fundraisers and future adoption events. Assist with transportation of items for these events.

Fundraising: Are you experienced in fundraising for non-profits or other charitable organizations? We need your help!

Grant Research: There are a ton of animal welfare grants available to rescues, but we need folks that are willing to do the research and help us through the application processes.

Legal Assistance: From trademark infringement to contracts to civil suits, we can always use your help!

FOSTER A DOG

****URGENT NEED AS OF 9/29/21****
We have immediate need for foster homes with experience handling dogs with behavioral issues. If you do not have the experience, you must be willing to learn. These dogs will be wearing a basket muzzle for the safety of both the dog and the humans around them. If you believe you meet these requirements, please submit a foster application here. If you are not willing to handle dogs with behavioral issues, please follow the steps below.

These low-riders need your help, and so do we! For every dog that’s in a foster home, that’s one less dog
that’s in the shelter! Being a foster parent can be one of the most rewarding experiences as you provide safety
and structure to a dog in need, acting as the stepping stone to their furever home. If you are ready, open your heart
and home to a low-rider in need, and be the change you wish to see!

STEP ONE: Attend a Foster Information Zoom call.

We will be holding a Foster Information Zoom call on JANUARY 8, 2022
which will outline the protocols and rules that are required to be a QBSDR foster parent.
If you would like to join this Zoom call, please email info@qbsdr.org for meeting invite.

STEP TWO: Request and submit a Foster Application

After attending the Zoom Call and learning about the responsibilities of a foster home,
please email info@qbsdr.org with a request for the link to our foster application.

STEP THREE: Attend in-person foster training at the QBSDR Ranch in Acton, CA

Foster training is a two-day, hands-on program. Attendance on both days is required.
Day one covers our 5 rules and boundaries.
Day two covers the “Place” command and how to implement the 5 Rules taught on Day one.

Additionally, we are requiring attendees have a recent, confirmed NEGATIVE Covid-19
test or proof of vaccination to secure a spot in these small training groups.
