Fundamental 5 Rules and Boundaries Weekend Workshop - RSVP Required

Are you experiencing behavioral issues or considering surrendering your corgi? QBSDR is making the transition from INTERVENTION to PREVENTION by providing a safe environment to gain tools, knowledge, and information in order to set up both you and your doggo for success! QBSDR’s philosophy and methodology is relationship-based balanced training to cultivate a healthy relationship of TRUST and RESPECT between you and your dog. At the end of this workshop, we hope that you feel empowered and ready to work through the issues you are experiencing to keep your beloved corgi.

During the hands-on, two-day workshop (Saturday + Sunday, 9am-5pm, includes break for lunch) you and your corgi will learn the Fundamental 5 Rules and Boundaries that we implement for every single dog that comes through our rescue. Corgis are a working breed and need structure in their lives to thrive. Consistency is key so we do recommend all members in the household attend.

1) Doorway boundaries (polite wait at door)
2) Crate training
3) Polite wait for food
4) Structured, loose-leash walk
5) Reinforce calm behavior (this will also include the “place” command)

If your dog is showing signs of dog or human aggression, we ask that you take the time to muzzle train prior to attending to keep everyone safe. We suggest a Baskerville Ultra basket muzzle (size 2 for standard/smaller corgis, size 3 for larger corgis). This muzzle is readily available at most pet stores and online. We are happy to talk you through the muzzle-training process, just reach out and we’ll set up a time for a call.

DAYS + TIME: Saturday + Sunday, 9am - 5pm (one hour for lunch)
LOCATION: QBSDR facility in Acton, CA (address will be provided upon RSVP)
SUGGESTED MINIMUM DONATION:
$200 per household (check, PayPal, Venmo, website donation)

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS: We require proof your dog is up to date on vaccinations (specifically rabies). To further keep all parties safe, if you are feeling ill or were recently exposed to Covid, please test prior to attending.

This workshop takes place outdoors at our facility in Acton, CA and may be postponed due to inclement weather.

If you are interested in attending a future workshop, please email info@qbsdr.org for more information.

Hike at Griffith Park - Ferndell Trail (easy - great for seniors!)

PLEASE NOTE WE ARE BACK TO 9AM START TIMES FOR OUR HIKES

Come meet us at Griffith Park for a nice, easy 2 mile pack walk! Honorary corgis (aka non-corgis) and humans with no doggos are welcome to join us as well. If you have a dog-reactive or human-reactive dog and would like a safe space to practice walking with a pack, this is the perfect opportunity. We do suggest utilizing a muzzle if there is a chance your dog might harm another animal or human. If you need assistance with muzzle training prior to attending, don’t hesitate to reach out via email at info@qbsdr.org. If you or your dog are not used to be being around reactive dogs, please be mindful and give them space to work while we walk.

Meet us in the middle of the oval parking lot at 9am. We will wait a few minutes for everyone to park and get settled before heading to the trail head around 9:15 am. Regarding the trail itself, there is a slight incline at the start, but we take it slow so it’s perfect for seniors or those with mobility issues. If you or your corgi are unable to walk the incline, you can join the pack after the incline if you wait for us on the trail to the right of stop sign that is shown below.

If you’ve ever considered fostering or volunteering, our hikes are a great way to learn more in person about our doggos and what we need help with most.

Bring comfy shoes and water for you and your doggo. See you on the trail!

**If a hike must be cancelled for any reason, we will announce it on our social media so make certain you are following us on FB & Instagram.**

See GPS pin below for our meetup spot. We park in the oval-shaped parking lot just below the red flag. To enter this parking lot, you will need to turn left when you stop at this sign shown below.

QBSDR is making the transition from INTERVENTION to PREVENTION by providing a safe environment to gain tools, knowledge, and information in order to set up both you and your doggo for success! We are happy to talk you through the muzzle-training process, just reach out and we’ll set up a time for a call.

Hike at Griffith Park with BONUS Mini Workshop

Mini Workshop topic TBD.

During the summer and early fall when it’s too hot to hold our weekend workshops in Acton, we will be changing up our hikes to include a free mini-workshop mid-hike, addressing common issues y’all experience in walks. The hike itself will begin a little earlier, at our normal meeting spot in the oval parking lot at 8am. We’ll hike down our usual route to the photo spot on Los Feliz, before heading across the street to our shaded water break area, where we’ll spend a hour on our mini workshop subject du jour. The mini workshop is open to anyone that needs it, and those that are not interested are welcome to finish up the hike while we workshop, but we hope you’ll stay to learn some new skills. Afterwards, we’ll finish up the second half of the hike while practicing those skills just learned!

As always, honorary corgs are welcome to join us. If your dog is reactive to dogs or people, this is a great space to safely work things out. We do suggest utilizing a muzzle if there is a chance your dog might harm another animal or human. If you need assistance with muzzle training prior to attending, don’t hesitate to reach out via email at info@qbsdr.org. If you need assistance with muzzle training prior to attending, don’t hesitate to reach out via email at info@qbsdr.org. If you or your dog are not used to be being around reactive dogs, please be mindful and give them space to work while we walk.

Meet us in the middle of the oval parking lot at 8am. We will wait a few minutes for everyone to park and get settled before heading to the trail head around 8:15 am.

Hike at Griffith Park with BONUS! Loose Leash + Leash Reactivity Mini Workshop

  • Ferndell Trail - Griffith Park (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

During the summer when it’s too hot to hold our weekend workshops in Acton, we will be changing up our hikes to include a free mini-workshop mid-hike, addressing common issues y’all experience in walks. The hike itself will begin a little earlier, at our normal meeting spot in the oval parking lot at 8am. We’ll hike down our usual route to the photo spot on Los Feliz, before heading across the street to our shaded water break area, where we’ll spend a hour addressing leash reactivity and loose leash walking.
