EVENTS
Grooming and Ranch Project Day
Our Community Days will shift focus to grooming. Our dogs have varying levels of reactivity, bite histories, and sensitivities to human touch. To ensure safety, all dogs will be muzzled during the entire grooming process. We are specifically seeking experienced volunteers who have worked with reactive dogs and can help create a calm environment to assist in de-escalating reactions.
We also need volunteers to help with yard work and various other property maintenance items on the “honey-do” list! If interested, please fill out a volunteer application and RSVP by email to volunteer@qbsdr.org.

Huntington Beach Central Park - Pack Walk
**We may change up the meetup location for this hike, but it will be at this same park. Will confirm closer to this date.*
In an effort to cover more parts of LA/OC, we are trying another new place to pack walk! This time we will meet up to walk around Talbert Lake near the Huntington Beach Central Library! Park anywhere near the library and head on over to the Thomas Ridley Bandstand to wait for the rest of the pack. This will be a leisurely stroll and a great place to practice with your reactive dog or work on those loose leash walking skills around plenty of distractions.
As always, honorary corgis and hoomans without pups are always welcome to join us!

Mount Hollywood Trail Hike - Griffith Park (Easy/Moderate)
***We’ve tried this trail for a sunset hike and it never quite works out for us so we are doing a morning hike instead!***
Come join us for a trail we haven’t done in a while! The Mount Hollywood Trail is marked as “Easy” on AllTrails but might feel more “Moderate” to some. As always, we’ll take it as slow as needed so everyone can participate. You’ll need to park either at the Observatory or along the road if the lot is full (their calendar doesn’t show an event this day so paws crossed for lot parking!). The top of this trail provides 360 views of Los Angeles and should be stunning at sunset. If you’ve got a headlamp, bring that with you in case we enjoy the viewpoint a smidge too long and lose the light while trekking back to the parking lot.
Let’s meet at the Charlie Turner Trailhead near the back of the Observatory parking lot at 9:00am while we wait for everyone to arrive.
As always, honorary corgis (aka non-corgis) and humans with no doggos are welcome to join us as well. If you have a dog-reactive or human-reactive dog and would like a safe space to practice walking with a pack, this is the perfect opportunity. We do suggest utilizing a muzzle if there is a chance your dog might harm another animal or human. If you need assistance with muzzle training prior to attending, don’t hesitate to reach out via email at info@qbsdr.org. If you or your dog are not used to be being around reactive dogs, please be mindful and give them space to work while we walk.
If you’ve ever considered fostering or volunteering, our hikes are a great way to learn more in person about our doggos and what we need help with most.
See you on the trail!
**If a hike must be cancelled for any reason, we will announce it on our social media so make certain you are following us on FB & Instagram.**

Walk-a-Stumper at Vasquez Rocks
Come explore the scenic Vasquez Rocks that have been used in so many movies and tv shows with us! This location is fairly close to the ranch so we would LOVE help from the community with walking some of the QBSDR doggos that are in much need of an adventure! If you would like to walk a QBSDR dog, please send us an email at volunteer@qbsdr.org so we can make certain to bring enough dogs for everyone.
Because this area doesn't have any shade, be certain to bring plenty of water, sunglasses, and hats for the hoomans and any hiking gear you use for your doggo (booties, swamp cooler vest, etc). We will be parking in the area directly next to the big rock formation not at the visitor center - see the pin below for exact location.
If the weather is too hot, we might start earlier so make certain to follow us on social media for any announcements!

If you or your corgi are unable to walk the incline, you can join the pack after the incline if you wait for us on the trail to the right of stop sign that is shown below.

Hike - From the Greek to the Cedar Grove
We will be meeting at the Vermont Canyon Play Area near the Greek Theatre. There is a small parking lot there by the play area, but if that’s full you’ll likely be able to park in the lots just north of the Greek Theatre. From there we will make our way up Commonwealth to work our way over to the lovely Cedar Grove. Distance will likely be between 2.25-2.5 miles and we anticipate it taking about 2 hours.
As always, honorary corgis and hoomans with no doggos are welcome to join us! Can’t wait to close out the year with a fantastic new holiday hike — we’ll see y’all on the trail!

Hike Old Zoo Loop at Griffith Park
***PLEASE NOTE WE ARE STARTING AT 9AM STARTING IN OCTOBER!***
THE TRAIL:
Join for us for a hike that we’ve not done in quite some time! This trail will be a choose-your-own-adventure type of trail as not all parts are ADA accessible. The plan is to hike the Lower Old Zoo Loop from the parking lot together (red path below) which is ADA accessible for about 25 minutes to get to the Old Zoo. There we will take a group photo, chat, socialize and explore the Old Zoo a little bit.
For the return trip, you will have two options:
1) Return via the same Lower Old Zoo Loop (red path)
2) Return via the Upper Old Zoo Loop (purple path) that presents a bit more a challenge via stairs and incline (approximately 35 minutes).
We think this will be a fun departure from the normal Ferndell trail and will allow some of the pups (and their hoomans) to burn some additional energy. As always, honorary corgis and hoomans without pups are always welcome to join as well. We look forward to seeing y’all on the trail!
ADA accessible red path (~25 minutes). Purple path non-ADA includes stairs and incline (~35 minutes)
PARKING:
We will be parking near the Old Zoo Loop Trailhead in the Griffith Park Merry Go Round - Lot One. See pin drop below:
**If a hike must be cancelled for any reason, we will announce it on our social media so make certain you are following us on FB & Instagram.**

Race for the Rescues - Pasadena Rose Bowl
On Saturday, October 5th the Stumpy Squad will be participating in the 2024 Race for Rescues. This race allows rescues from all over California to come together to raise money and support each other. We will be participating in the the 5k walk/run with doggos, but you are welcome to sign up for the 1k walk, the 10k walk/run or even as a “couch potato” that is a virtual part of our team (which means you can fundraise to support us from almost anywhere!). We will also have an informational booth set up to chat with other rescues, supporters and just generally educate the public that we exist and are ready to help whoever needs us!
The more people that sign up for our team and help us fundraise, the more likely it is that we will meet our fundraising goals! This year we are still working to fund a van that can help transport all dogs at the ranch in case of an emergency. Our facility is located in Acton, CA and we’ve already had quite a few close calls just this fire season. Additionally, the ranch property itself needs some love! We need a retaining wall, new fencing, new gates, additional turfed yards, and an additional barn/shed for our volunteers and training workshops.
Once you sign up to be part of the Stumpy Squad team, you can link your Race for the Rescues fundraising page directly to your Facebook account to set up a FB fundraiser that will sync monetary info. It’s a helpful way to passively solicit for donations to reach more people than word of mouth alone and gives you a more public forum to thank donors and keep your fundraiser at the forefront of people’s Facebook feeds. Additionally, you are able to customize your fundraising page to tell your own story about why this fundraiser means so much to you. We encourage you to be open, honest, and include pictures to get your story across. If you need help customizing your page, let us know and we can help!
If you are not able to join the team, but are able to donate, please be certain to check with your company to see if they offer donation matching! It’s a great way to make your donation go even further.
Additionally, if you own a business or know of other businesses that might be willing to become a corporate sponsor for the Stumpy Squad team, shoot us an email at info@qbdr.org to discuss. The lowest level sponsorship is only $500!
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out. We hope to see you at the Rose Bowl with us! Happy fundraising.
JOIN OR DONATE TO OUR TEAM HERE:
https://www.racefortherescues.org/team/QBSDR
NOTE: Due to safety concerns, Race for the Rescues does not allow extendable leashes or children in strollers to participate in the race. If your child wishes to participate, they will need to be carried or walk/run themselves.

Hike at Griffith Park - Ferndell Trail (easy - great for seniors!)
****START TIME TO 8AM DUE TO HEAT****
Come meet us at Griffith Park for a nice, easy 2 mile pack walk! Honorary corgis (aka non-corgis) and humans with no doggos are welcome to join us as well.
Meet us in the middle of the oval parking lot at 9am. We will wait a few minutes for everyone to park and get settled before heading to the trail head around 9:15 am. Regarding the trail itself, there is a slight incline at the start, but we take it slow so it’s perfect for seniors or those with mobility issues. If you or your corgi are unable to walk the incline, you can join the pack after the incline if you wait for us on the trail to the right of stop sign that is shown below.
If you’ve ever considered fostering or volunteering, our hikes are a great way to learn more in person about our doggos and what we need help with most.
Bring comfy shoes and water for you and your doggo. See you on the trail!
**If a hike must be cancelled for any reason, we will announce it on our social media so make certain you are following us on FB & Instagram.**
See GPS pin below for our meetup spot. We park in the oval-shaped parking lot just below the red flag. To enter this parking lot, you will need to turn left when you stop at this sign shown below.
Grooming + Ranch Project Day
WANTED: Experienced Groomers and Reactive Dog Parents
After (hopefully) finishing the yard work at the end of June, our Community Days will shift focus to grooming.
If interested, please fill out a volunteer application and RSVP by email to volunteer@qbsdr.org.

Corgi Courtyard Meetup at Creature Comforts Brewing Co. DTLA
On Saturday, August 10th, we're teaming up with Creature Comforts Brewing Co. for our first ever Corgi Courtyard Meet Up! You'll get to meet the QBSDR team, grab some swag, drink some beer, and most importantly, hang out with some cute loaves.
Do you have a corgi? Bring them!! Do you wish you had a corgi? Come find out how to make your dream a reality! Even if you aren't in the market, come help out a great cause, as $1 of every pint sold during the event will go to QBSDR!!
And because we love all creatures, other dog breeds welcome as well! We simply ask that all pups are well-behaved and kept on leash. We will have dog treats and water bowls at the ready!!
@superfinepizza will be serving up hot pies all day, as well as other TBD food vendors. Hope to see you and your furry friends there!
SUNSET HIKE! - Mount Hollywood Trail Hike - Griffith Park (Easy/Moderate)
Let’s meet at the Charlie Turner Trailhead near the back of the Observatory parking lot at 6:45pm while we wait for everyone to arrive. We will start promptly at 7pm.
As always, honorary corgis (aka non-corgis) and humans with no doggos are welcome to join us as well.
